Extremism of Islam, Women subjugation, Killing

Assalamu alaikum!

Good for thought. Allow me to highlight few points of the debate.

1. Extremism of Islam; the root of the problem due to undivided support by the West government towards establishment of Zionist regime in Israel that followed by depriving of Palestine Muslim rights in their own country.

2. Women subjugation; there is no subjugation of women in Islam as a matter of fact the history has proven that Islam raised up the the woman status during the medieval age by high respectable position in society compared to era of Roman, Byzantine and Persian Empires.

3. Killing; How many Muslims being killed in their own country by uninvited guests compared to people that killed by so called extremists out side of the Muslim world as a result of bad treatment and frustration,

its very great challenge and let us be prepared to disseminate Islamic dakwah vigorously among non-Muslims at any opportunity arisen.

In The Name Of Allah Most Gracious Most Merciful

"And say, My Lord I seek refuge in You from the whisperings of the shayaateen. And I seek refuge in You My Lord lest they come near. "(Quran 23:97-98)

Have you ever felt an unsettling presence in your home as though something is watching you? Or your family has been arguing way too much for no apparent reason? Many times such strange feelings are due to the presence of Jinn, watching us and living amongst us in the unseen world around us.

Last month we discussed how the Jinn seek to enter our homes upon errands delegated by Iblees. We also mentioned how Allah has bestowed knowledge to the believers so that we can prevent their entry by locking our doors while saying Bismillah.

However what about the Jinn that have already entered our homes? For it is one thing to prevent entry to those outside but another thing to expel those residing within.

Abdullah bin Masâ€™ood said, â€˜Shaytaan flees from the house wherein Surat Al Baqarah is recited.â€™ (sunan of nasaaâ€™ee; mustadrak of haakim)

Abdullah bin Masâ€™ood said, â€˜Shaytaan departs the house where Surat Al Baqarah is being recited, and as he leaves he passes wind.â€™ (musnaad of daarimi)

One of the ways to expel the shayateen from our homes is to recite Surat Al Baqarah, for its recitation results in Jinn fleeing for their lives. Those who frequently recite this Surah in their homes notice the difference in the way their homes feel, with the presence of peace and sakeenah and the absence of uneasy presence and heaviness.

Abu Hurairah narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, â€˜Do not turn your houses into graves. Verily shaytaan does not enter the house where Surat Al Baqarah is recited.â€™ (saheeh of muslim)

Once expelled the shayaateen will not able to re-enter however much they strive. Disgraced and expelled, they remain outside unable to enter the fortress of the believer.

Sahl bin Saâ€™d said that the messenger of Allah(peace and blessings be upon him) said, â€˜Whoever recites Al Baqarah at night in his house, then shaytaan will not enter that house for three nights. Whoever recites it during the day in his house, then shaytaan will not enter that house for three days.â€™ (saheeh of ibn hibbaan)

The above hadeeth of Sahl bin Saâ€™d, recorded in the saheeh of ibn hibbaan, clarifies the hadeeth of Abu Hurairah recorded in the saheeh of muslim in terms of duration of expulsion, defining it to be three days or three nights for those houses in which Surat Al Baqarah is recited.

Abu Hurairah said, â€œAllahâ€™s Messenger(peace and blessings be upon him) assigned me to keep watch over the sadaqah of Ramadaan. A person snuck in and started taking handfuls of foodstuff. I caught him and said, â€˜By Allah I will take you to Allahâ€™s Messenger.â€™ He said, â€˜Release me for I am meek and have many dependents and am in great need.â€™ I released him and in the morning Allahâ€™s Messenger(peace and blessings be upon him) asked me, â€˜What did your prisoner do yesterday O Abu Hurairah?â€™ I said, â€˜O Allahâ€™s Messenger! He complained of being needy and of having many dependents, so I had pity on him and let him go.â€™ Allahâ€™s Messenger(peace and blessings be upon him) said, â€˜Indeed, he told you a lie and will return.â€™

I believed that he would show up again for Allahâ€™s Messenger(peace and blessings be upon him) had told me that he would return. So I watched for him. When he started stealing handfuls of foodstuff I caught hold of him again and said, â€˜I will definitely take you to Allahâ€™s Messenger.â€™ He said, â€˜Leave me, for I am very needy and have many dependents. I promise I will not come back again.â€™ I had pity on him and let him go. In the morning Allahâ€™s Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) asked me, â€˜What did your prisoner do last night, O Abu Hurairah?â€™ I replied, â€˜O Allahâ€™s Messenger! He complained of his great need and of too many dependents, so I took pity on him and set him free.â€™ Allahâ€™s Messenger(peace and blessings be upon him) said, â€˜Verily, he told you a lie; he will return.â€™

I waited for him attentively for the third time, and when he started stealing handfuls of the foodstuff I caught hold of him and said, â€˜I will surely take you to Allahâ€™s Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) as it is the third time you promised not to return, yet you returned.â€™ He said, â€˜Let me teach you some words with which Allah will give you benefitâ€™ I asked, â€˜What are they?â€™ He replied, â€˜Whenever you go to bed, recite Ayat Al Kursi til you finish the whole verse. Allah will appoint a guard for you who will stay with you and no shaytaan will come near you until morning.â€™ So, I released him.

In the morning, Allahâ€™s Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) asked, â€˜What did your prisoner do yesterday?â€™ I replied, â€˜O Allahâ€™s Messenger! He claimed that he would teach me some words by which Allah will grant me some benefit, so I let him go.â€™ Allahâ€™s Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) asked, â€˜What are they?â€™ I replied, â€˜He said to me, whenever you go to bed recite Ayat Al Kursi from the beginning to the end. He further said to me, Allah will appoint a guard for you who will stay with you, and no shaytaan will come near you until morning.â€™ The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, â€˜He spoke the truth although he is a liar. Do you know whom you were talking to these three nights, O Abu Hurayrah?â€™ Abu Hurayrah said, â€˜No.â€™ He said, â€˜It was Shaytaan.â€™â€ (saheeh of bukhaari)

Furthermore if one is unable to recite the whole of Surat Al Baqarah, then recitation of Ayat Al Kursi in Surat Al Baqarah will suffice. When the believer recites this verse Allah sends down a guard who stays with the believer til the morning.

Abu Masâ€™ood narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, â€˜Whoever recites the last two Verses in Surat Al Baqarah at night, they will suffice him. (saheeh of bukhaari; saheeh of muslim)

In addition reciting the last two verses of Surat Al Baqarah are also prescribed means for seeking refuge in Allah from the shayaateen. The above ahaadeeth provide sufficient evidence for the legitimacy of this practice.

Uqbah bin Amr narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, â€˜Verily the people do not seek protection with anything like these two: Qul Aooâ€™thu Bi-Rabbil Falaq, and Qul Aooâ€™thu Bi-Rabbin Naas (sunan of nasaaâ€™ee/ declared saheeh by albaani)

However the best way to seek refuge in Allah from the shayaateen is to recite the last two surahs of the Quran, (Surat Al Falaq and Surat An Naas). This is why these surahs are specifically referred to as Al Muâ€™awwathatayn (Mu-â€˜aw-wa-tha-tayn), describing their attribute of being used for the purposes of seeking refuge in Allah.

And it should be clear to all that when we recite these various verses of The Quran, we are seeking refuge in The beloved Words of Allah, The All Glorious, The Most High. And in this manner we are seeking refuge in Allah alone, for The Quran is His Speech and His spoken Words.

"So when you recite The Quran seek refuge in Allah from shaytaan the outcast. Verily he has no power over those who believe and put their Trust in their Lord." (Quran 16:98-99)

In closing I would like to remind us that Allah has linked â€˜seeking refuge in Himâ€™ with â€˜having Emaan and Tawakkul in Him.â€™ This is an extremely important point which cannot be overemphasized for the mere action of reciting the above verses as an action of the tongue is not what is intended. Rather the verses need to be recited with Emaan and Tawwakul in Allah, as an action of the heart. So the believer recites them with full belief that Allah is Hearing their recitation, and full trust that Allah will respond by offering His protection. Truly Allah will suffice the believers so let us place full trust, reliance and dependence in Him.

Say: "I seek refuge with the Lord of mankind,

The King of mankind,

From the evil of the whisperer who withdraws,

Who whispers in the breasts of mankind.

Of jinn and men."

This is the season of the greatest of spiritual journeys, held dear in the heart of every Muslim. For five thousand years and more, Hajj has lived on as the grand meeting of man's..

This is the season of the greatest of spiritual journeys, held dear in the heart of every Muslim.

For five thousand years and more, Hajj has lived on as the grand meeting of man's most intense and sustained remembrance of his Lord.

For more than 1400 years, since the last days of the Prophet Muhammad, sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam, each year it has thrived in the very spirit, and in compliance with the Divine Will, of the Sacred Way of the One Whose call it seeks humbly and adoringly to answer and to glorify.

The distant behold it as a perennial marvel, a primordial milestone in the spiritual ascent of man. The near ones see it as a miraculous moment, almost perpetual, out of time, single-handedly rejuvenating weary faith and motivating the meeting of reborn hearts, and tuned-in minds. And thus it is for the willing submitters, the Muslimsâ€”and what a searing reminder it is to them of their role as emissaries of Heaven unto humankind!

Indeed, Hajj enlivens and fortifies the conscience with a profound sense of connection, so deep in the human past, to Prophet Ibraaheem (Abraham, may Allaah exalt his mention), his wife Haajar, and his first son Ismaaâ€™eel (Ishmael, may Allaah exalt his mention) both of whom he (Ibraaheem, may Allaah exalt his mention) left alone in the wilderness of the Barren Valley where they received from Allaah the miracle of the blessed water of Zamzam and waited impatiently for the Prophet-Patriarch's return.

The Quran tells us the story of Ibraaheem, may Allaah exalt his mention, in remarkable detail with intended emphasis on the events, related to Hajj and the construction of the Oldest House of Allaahâ€”the Ka'bah. Allaah Says (what means): â€œIndeed, the first House [of worship] established for mankind was that at Bakkah (another name of Makkah) â€“ blessed and a guidance for the worlds. In it are clear signs [such as] the standing place of Ibraaheem (Abraham). And whoever enters it shall be safe. And [due] to Allaah from the people is a pilgrimage to the House â€“ for whoever is able to find thereto a way. But whoever disbelieves â€“ then indeed, Allaah is free from need of the worlds.â€ [Quran 3: 96-97]

These verses, along with those related to Prophet Ibraaheem, may Allaah exalt his mention, in the second and twenty-second chapters of the Quran, show that most of the acts that the pilgrims are required to perform in their rituals are meant to honor him (Ibraaheem, may Allaah exalt his mention), and to underscore the divine reality that faith in Allaah can be neither complete nor acceptable to Him without one believing in precisely what Ibraaheem, may Allaah exalt his mention, believed, learning the essences that he taught, and standing up for all that he stood for. Allaah Says (what means): â€œThen We revealed to you [O Muhammad] to follow the religion of Ibraaheem, inclining toward truth; and he was not of those who associate (anything in worship) with Allaah.â€ [Quran 16: 123]

Thus does the Quran use the term â€œreligion of Ibraaheem,â€ in the same way it uses the word `Islam,' or `submission,' to mean and refer to the religion of Allaah. It also tells us that all the Prophets sent by Allaahâ€”from Nooh (Noah), to Ibraaheem (Abraham), to Moosa (Moses), to â€˜Eesaa (Jesus), may Allaah exalt their mention, down to the Last and Final Messenger, Muhammad, sallallaahu alayhi wa sallamâ€”conveyed to humankind the same basic message of that religion of Allaah, and called them to submit themselves willingly to and worship the same One and only God, Allaah, our Almighty Creator and Merciful Lord.

In fact, after the narration of the stories of many of Allaah's Prophets, may Allaah exalt their mention, and their encounters with the people to which Allaah sent them, the Quran indicates in a chapter titled the â€œProphetsâ€ that (what means) â€œIndeed [We said to all the Prophets]: this, your religion, is one religion, and I am your Lord, so worship Me.â€ [Quran 21:92] So true. So real.

Allaah is One and people are one community, wherein every human being deserves a fair and equal chance before Him.

But has it ever occurred to you that this simple reality is not acknowledged by any religion other than Islam? No other religion actually questions the fate of people before its advent or indicates why Allaah did not â€“ consequentially â€“ provide them with guidance, a message, or a way of achieving eternal happiness. Some even restrict their message to a particular ethnicity or era.

Islam, on the other hand, not only recognizes the equal value of all people, it actually asserts that Allaah will not hold any person accountable without first sending a messenger [Quran 17:15]. Moreover, it makes it an essential part of faith to firmly believe that the people of Paradise will be comprised of other than those who are Muslims (i.e. the believers before the advent of Islam) so long as they are true followers of all the Messengers and the Prophets of Allaah.

This is a main reason that a sizable number of Islamic juridical rulings resemble the requirements of preceding religions upon their followers. Moreover, it is why so many of the Quranic commandments are directed toward humankind and not only to Muslims.

Hajj, the fifth pillar of the edifice that is Islam, is a good case in point.

The Quran tells us that Allaah asked Prophet Ibraaheem, may Allaah exalt his mention, to call humankind to perform Hajj. Seseorang bukan Islam tidak dilarang memasuki masjid jika niatnya baik dan dibenarkan orang Islam kecuali Masjidil Haram di Mekah, kata Pertubuhan Jamaah Islah Malaysia (JIM).

Beberapa tokoh ulama tersohor dalam pemikiran Islam tidak melarang orang Islam berbuat demikian kecuali di tanah haram tersebut, kata Yang Dipertua JIM Selangor, Mohd Kamal Mohd Rathi.

"Menurut pandangan majoriti para ulama termasuk Imam Malik, Syafie dan ulama fiqh yang lain, adapun larangan khusus bagi bukan Muslim daripada memasuki masjid hanyalah terhad kepada Masjidil Haram di Mekah dan kawasan tanah suci di sekitarnya berdasarkan firman Allah dalam surah at-Taubah ayat 28," katanya.

Beliau mengulas ura-ura tindakan Jabatan Agam Islam Selangor (Jais) terhadap jawatankuasa sebuah masjid di DUN Seri Andalas minggu lalu yang membenarkan wakil rakyat di situ Dr Xavier Jayakumar menyampaikan ucapan di dalam tempat ibadat itu, Ogos lepas.

Wakil rakyat PKR itu, yang juga exco kerajaan Selangor, dilaporkan menyampaikan ceramah ketika merasmikan satu majis berbuka puasa tetapi dakwaan itu dinafikan oleh jawatankuasa masjid.

Dalam kenyataannya, JIM negeri juga berkata seseorang bukan Muslim wajar memasuki masjid berdasarkan syarat-syarat berikut:

- Non-Muslim diharuskan memasuki masjid selain daripada Masjidil Haram di Mekah dengan keizinan orang Islam.

- Mereka harus mempunyai sebab yang munasabah untuk memasuki masjid. Oleh itu sekiranya tujuan mereka memasuki masjid untuk memecahbelahkan perpaduan masyarakat atau menyebarkan fitnah maka hal ini adalah dilarang.

- Mereka seharusnya menghormati kesucian masjid dan perlu sedar bahawa masjid adalah tempat suci bagi orang Islam beribadah.

- Kedua-dua kaum lelaki dan wanita non-Muslim yang ingin memasuki masjid mestilah tidak mendedahkan aurat yakni anggota tubuh mereka yang seharusnya ditutup dengan pakaian yang bersesuaian.

"JIM Selangor juga percaya bahawa sikap terbuka masyarakat Islam dengan membenarkan bukan Muslim memasuki masjid berdasarkan syarat-syarat yang tersebut di atas sudah pasti memberikan peluang dan ruang untuk masyarakat Islam berdakwah dan menyampaikan mesej Islam kepada bukan Muslim," kata Mohd Kamal.

Tambahnya, bukan Muslim pula akan melihat keterbukaan Islam dalam memelihara keharmonian hubungan antara pelbagai kaum dan agama dalam negara ini.

"Amalan menerima bukan Islam memasuki masjid atas tujuan yang murni juga telah diamalkan di beberapa negara lain dan ia terbukti memberi nilai positif kepada keberkesanan dakwah Islam kepada bukan Muslim."

Islam Attracting Many Survivors of Rwanda Genocide

RUHENGERI, Rwanda -- The villagers with their forest green head wraps and forest green Korans arrived at the mosque on a rainy Sunday afternoon for a lecture for new converts. There was one main topic: jihad.

They found their seats and flipped to the right page. Hands flew in the air. People read passages aloud. And the word jihad -- holy struggle -- echoed again and again through the dark, leaky room.

It wasn't the kind of jihad that has been in the news since Sept. 11, 2001. There were no references to Osama bin Laden, the World Trade Center or suicide bombers. Instead there was only talk of April 6, 1994, the first day of the state-sponsored genocide in which ethnic Hutu extremists killed 800,000 minority Tutsis and Hutu moderates.

"We have our own jihad, and that is our war against ignorance between Hutu and Tutsi. It is our struggle to heal," said Saleh Habimana, the head mufti of Rwanda. "Our jihad is to start respecting each other and living as Rwandans and as Muslims."

Since the genocide, Rwandans have converted to Islam in huge numbers. Muslims now make up 14 percent of the 8.2 million people here in Africa's most Catholic nation, twice as many as before the killings began.

Many converts say they chose Islam because of the role that some Catholic and Protestant leaders played in the genocide. Human rights groups have documented several incidents in which Christian clerics allowed Tutsis to seek refuge in churches, then surrendered them to Hutu death squads, as well as instances of Hutu priests and ministers encouraging their congregations to kill Tutsis. Today some churches serve as memorials to the many people slaughtered among their pews.

Four clergymen are facing genocide charges at the U.N.-created International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda, and last year in Belgium, the former colonial power, two Rwandan nuns were convicted of murder for their roles in the massacre of 7,000 Tutsis who sought protection at a Benedictine convent.

In contrast, many Muslim leaders and families are being honored for protecting and hiding those who were fleeing.

Some say Muslims did this because of the religion's strong dictates against murder, though Christian doctrine proscribes it as well. Others say Muslims, always considered an ostracized minority, were not swept up in the Hutus' campaign of bloodshed and were unafraid of supporting a cause they felt was honorable.

"I know people in America think Muslims are terrorists, but for Rwandans they were our freedom fighters during the genocide," said Jean Pierre Sagahutu, 37, a Tutsi who converted to Islam from Catholicism after his father and nine other members of his family were slaughtered. "I wanted to hide in a church, but that was the worst place to go. Instead, a Muslim family took me. They saved my life."

Sagahutu said his father had worked at a hospital where he was friendly with a Muslim family. They took Sagahutu in, even though they were Hutus. "I watched them pray five times a day. I ate with them and I saw how they lived," he said. "When they pray, Hutu and Tutsi are in the same mosque. There is no difference. I needed to see that."

Islam has long been a religion of the downtrodden. In the Middle East and South Asia, the religion has had a strong focus on outreach to the poor and tackling social ills by banning alcohol and encouraging sexual modesty. In the United States, Malcolm X used a form of Islam to encourage economic and racial empowerment among blacks.

Muslim leaders say they have a natural constituency in Rwanda, where AIDS and poverty have replaced genocide as the most daunting problems. "Islam fits into the fabric of our society. It helps those who are in poverty. It preaches against behaviors that create AIDS. It offers education in the Koran and Arabic when there is not a lot of education being offered," said Habimana, the chief mufti. "I think people can relate to Islam. They are converting as a sign of appreciation to the Muslim community who sheltered them during the genocide."

While Western governments worry that the growth of Islam carries with it the danger of militancy, there are few signs of militant Islam in Rwanda. Nevertheless, some government officials quietly express concern that some of the mosques receive funding from Saudi Arabia, whose dominant Wahhabi sect has been embraced by militant groups in other parts of the world. They also worry that high poverty rates and a traumatized population make Rwanda the perfect breeding ground for Islamic extremism.

But Nish Imiyimana, an imam here in Ruhengeri, about 45 miles northwest of Kigali, the capital, contends: "We have enough of our own problems. We don't want a bomb dropped on us by America. We want American NGOs [nongovernmental organizations] to come and build us hospitals instead."

Imams across the country held meetings after Sept. 11, 2001, to clarify what it means to be a Muslim. "I told everyone, 'Islam means peace,' " said Imiyimana, recalling that the mosque was packed that day. "Considering our track record, it wasn't hard to convince them."

That fact worries the Catholic church. Priests here said they have asked for advice from church leaders in Rome about how to react to the number of converts to Islam.

"The Catholic church has a problem after genocide," said the Rev. Jean Bosco Ntagugire, who works at Kigali churches. "The trust has been broken. We can't say, 'Christians come back.' We have to hope that happens when faith builds again."

To help make that happen, the Catholic church has started to offer youth sports programs and camping trips, Ntagugire said. But Muslims are also reaching out, even forming women's groups that provide classes on child care and being a mother.

At a recent class here, hundreds of women dressed in red, orange and purple head coverings gathered in a dark clay building. They talked about their personal struggle, or jihad, to raise their children well. And afterward, during a lunch of beans and chicken legs, they ate heartily and shared stories about how Muslims saved them during the genocide.

"If it weren't for the Muslims, my whole family would be dead," said Aisha Uwimbabazi, 27, a convert and mother of two children. "I was very, very thankful for Muslim people during the genocide. I thought about it and I really felt it was right to change."

JAKARTA â€” Walking down the alleys around Jakarta Islamic Center, Sri Hartati brushes off bitter memories of the placeâ€™s history and her connection with it.

â€œI still shudder when I think back of those days,â€ Sri, who sells cakes at the Centerâ€™s compound, told IslamOnline.net.

Ten years ago, the 38-year-old was one of nearly 1,615 sex workers in the infamous red-light neighborhood of Kramat Tunggak, known as prostitution village, in northern Jakarta.

They have undergone a rehabilitation program by the Jakarta administration after the closure of Kramat Tunggak, the second biggest sex-trading complex in South East Asia.

Besides the sex-workers, almost three hundreds pimps, seven hundreds servants, eight hundreds street vendors and more than one hundreds motorbike taxi drivers and other stakeholder of now-defunct industry also took part in a counseling series by the administration.

Mosque Changed Jakarta Face

The Kramat Tunggak complex, built in 1972, used to be a center for crime, drug dealing and illegal porn.

It was demolished on December 31, 1999, by the Jakarta administration following a series of protests from Islamic groups led by the Islamic-rooted Prosperous Justice Party (PKS).

In 2003, the Jakarta Islamic Center Mosque was established on an eleven hectares land, with a towering minaret lighting up the sky.

The 6,000-meter-square building is now a destination for seekers of Islamic studies and its mosque has the capacity for 20,000 worshippers.

The complex has become a symbol of the growing religiosity and morality in the worldâ€™s most populous Muslim country.

Indonesia has a population of more than 220 million; about eighty five percent of them Muslims.

Changing Lives

Sri says she is one of thousands of people whose lives have been affected by the demolition of the prostitution village.

â€œMost of us chanced professions to be vendors, hairstylists and even kindergarten teachers.â€

Besides her work as a cake vendor, Sri, now a mother of two after marrying an ex-security officer of the mosque complex, is also a professional tailor.

â€œI took the sewing course,â€ she recalled.

â€œI receive orders for tailoring clothes, but during Ramadan I am also selling snacks for iftar.â€

Rina Uswatun Hasanah, the secretary of the Jakarta Islamic Center, asserts the mosque complex has changed the social structure of the people in the northern Jakarta slum area.

She noted that some of the ex-sex workers are working in the center, while others run small private businesses.

Many have become more familiar with Islamic teachings performing prayers regularly in the mosque.

â€œDuring this Ramadan, they have held many Islamic events, like Nuzul- Al-Qurâ€™an,â€ she said.

â€œAlhamdulillah, they have significantly changed.â€

In a Hadith Qudsi recorded by the Companion Abu Hurayra, may Allah be pleased with him, the Prophet Muhammad (s) said speaking from his Lord:

“Allah, Exalted and Mighty is He, loves of His creation the God-fearing, the pure in the heart, those who are hidden, and those who are innocent, whose face is dusty, whose hair is unkempt, whose stomach is empty, and who, if he asks permission to enter to the rulers, is not granted it, and if he were to ask for a gentle lady in marriage, he would be refused, and when he leaves the world it does not miss him, and if he goes out, his going out is not noticed, and if he falls sick, he is not attended to, and if he dies, he is not accompanied to his grave.“

They asked him, “O Messenger of Allah, how can we find someone like that?” He, (s), said, “Uwais al-Qarani is such a one.” They asked him, “and who is Uwais al-Qarani?” He, (s), answered, “He is dark skinned, wide shoulder, and of average height. His complexion is close to the color of earth. His beard touches his chest. His eyes are always looking downwards to the place of prostration, and his right hand is on his left hand. He weeps about himself with such a flow of tears that his lips are swollen. He wears a woolen garment and is known to the people of the heavens. If he makes a promise in the Name of Allah, he keeps it. Under his left shoulder there is a white spot. When the Day of Resurrection comes and it is announced to the slaves, “Enter the Garden,” it will be said to Uwais, ‘Stop and intercede.’ Allah, Mighty and Exalted is He, will then forgive them to the same number as are the people of Rabi’a and Mudhar. (These are the two tribes that Uwais, (RA), belonged to). So, O Umar and O Ali, if you can find him, ask him to intercede for you. Then Allah will forgive you.”
